Proton eMas EV and PHEV Models Enter PDRM Evaluation Phase
Proton has officially commenced the testing phase for its new electrified lineup by handing over the eMas 5, eMas 7 EV, and eMas 7 PHEV models to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM). This strategic move aims to evaluate the practical usability and performance of these vehicles within official law enforcement duties. To facilitate this trial, Gentari has committed to providing complimentary charging services throughout the testing period.
The handover, which took place last week, marks a significant milestone for Proton’s electrification journey as it moves from consumer-focused launches to real-world operational assessment. The test fleet includes a diverse range of powertrains, featuring the all-electric eMas 5 and eMas 7 alongside the plug-in hybrid eMas 7 PHEV. By subjecting these models to PDRM’s rigorous driving standards, Proton intends to gather critical data regarding battery endurance, rapid charging efficiency, and overall vehicle reliability under demanding patrol conditions.
This initiative is further bolstered by a partnership with Gentari, ensuring that the test fleet maintains optimal uptime through free access to charging infrastructure. Beyond assessing vehicle durability, this collaboration serves as a vital litmus test for the integration of electric vehicle (EV) technology within Malaysia’s public service sectors.
