Domestic Electricity Bill Protection Expanded to 800 kWh Through December 2026
The Malaysian government has announced an expansion of its electricity bill protection scheme for domestic users, raising the monthly usage threshold from 600 kWh to 800 kWh. This measure is set to take effect for all electricity consumption recorded between September and December 31, 2026.
Under this updated policy, eligible households will benefit from the removal of several key costs, including the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) adjustments, retail charges, and Service Tax (SST). By increasing the threshold to 800 kWh, the initiative aims to extend financial relief to a broader segment of the population. Depending on individual consumption patterns, eligible consumers can expect to save up to RM47 per month during this period.
This extension serves as a strategic move to mitigate the rising cost of living and provide greater stability for residential utility expenditures. By implementing these protections through the final quarter of 2026, the government seeks to offer much-needed economic breathing room for households navigating fluctuating energy costs.
