Government Expands Electricity Bill Protection Threshold to 800 kWh Through December 2026
The Malaysian government has announced an expansion of electricity bill protection for domestic consumers, increasing the monthly usage threshold from 600 kWh to 800 kWh. This measure will be effective for usage recorded between September and December 31, 2026.
Under the new guidelines, domestic users falling within the 800 kWh limit will be exempt from additional surcharges, retail charges, and Sales and Service Tax (SST). This adjustment is designed to provide more robust financial relief to households, ensuring that a broader demographic is shielded from the volatility of energy pricing and various utility-related levies.
Eligible consumers can expect to see monthly savings of up to RM47 on their electricity bills. This move reflects the government's ongoing efforts to mitigate rising living costs through targeted utility protections, providing much-needed budget stability for domestic users heading into the final quarter of 2026.
