Government Raises Electricity Bill Protection Threshold to 800 kWh Through December 2026
The Malaysian government has announced an expansion of its electricity bill protection scheme for domestic consumers, increasing the monthly consumption threshold from 600 kWh to 800 kWh. This measure, which remains effective from September through December 31, 2026, aims to provide significant financial relief to households during the final quarter of the year.
Under the expanded initiative, eligible domestic users will be exempt from Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) adjustments, retail charges, and Sales and Service Tax (SST). By raising the eligibility limit, the government intends to shield a broader segment of the population from these additional utility levies, ensuring more stable energy costs for residential users.
By qualifying for this protection, households can see monthly savings of up to RM47 on their electricity bills. This policy reflects a continued effort to mitigate the rising cost of living and manage the impact of fluctuating energy prices on the daily expenses of Malaysian citizens.
