Perlis Authorities Arrest Two for Illegal Petrol Transfer Between Malaysian and Thai Vehicles
The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has apprehended two individuals in Perlis following an attempt to illegally transfer subsidized fuel. The suspects were intercepted while attempting to move approximately 300 litres of petrol from a Malaysian-registered vehicle into a vehicle registered in Thailand.
The enforcement operation resulted in the detention of a Malaysian woman in her 40s and a Thai national. According to official reports, the pair were caught in the act of siphoning fuel, a practice used to bypass national regulations and exploit domestic petrol subsidies for cross-border profit.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Malaysian authorities in curbing fuel leakage and smuggling in border regions. As KPDN intensifies its surveillance to protect national resources, investigations are currently underway to determine if this case is linked to a larger organized syndicate targeting subsidized petroleum.
