BAIC Confirms Malaysian Debut with Arcfox T1 EV and BJ30 Hybrid via Local Assembly
After nearly a decade of anticipation, Beijing-based state-owned automaker BAIC is finally poised to enter the Malaysian market. The brand has announced a staggered rollout starting with the Arcfox T1 EV later this year, followed by the BJ30 Hybrid in the first quarter of 2027. Significantly, both models will be produced via local CKD assembly from their respective launches.
The initial phase of BAIC's entry will center on the Arcfox T1 EV, which is slated to make its debut before the close of the current year. This electric model serves as the brand's vanguard into Malaysia's rapidly expanding green mobility sector. Following this, the company plans to bolster its portfolio in early 2027 with the introduction of the BJ30 Hybrid, offering consumers a strategic choice between full electrification and hybrid powertrains to suit varying driving needs.
A cornerstone of BAIC's market entry strategy is a commitment to localization; both the Arcfox and the BJ30 will be Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units from the outset. This approach is expected to provide a competitive edge in pricing and support the development of the local automotive ecosystem. This move finally brings an end to one of the most prolonged gestation periods in the nation’s automotive history, as the manufacturer has been eyeing a Malaysian entry since as early as 2015.
